This manuscript deals with the estimation of population mean in stratified random sampling where the units are non-homogeneous for the characteristics under study using product cum dual to product estimator utilizing the negatively correlated auxiliary variable. The expressions for the bias and mean square error (MSE) of proposed estimator have been obtained up to the first degree of approximation. The optimum value of the constant a involved in the estimator that minimizes the mean square error of the proposed estimator has been obtained. The minimum value of the mean square error of proposed estimator for this optimum value of a has also been obtained. An efficiency comparison has also been made of the proposed estimator with other existing mentioned estimators of population mean under stratified random sampling. Finally an empirical study is also carried out to judge the performance of the proposed estimator along with the existing estimators under stratified random sampling.
